Create more pages, not less!🚀📈
Sometimes, creating more pages isn’t just a strategy – it’s a game-changer. For the right type of site, it works wonders.
If your site is listing, or product-based (and you’ve got thousands of them), you should absolutely be leveraging that content to the max. Here’s the kicker: you can probably create more pages without needing more listings.
How?
🔹 More categories!
🔸 More sub-categories!
🔹 Even more sub-sub-categories!
🔸 More filtered search result pages targeting keyword gaps!
Why does this matter?
If your site doesn’t have pages to target these gaps, your listings will rank temporarily for those keywords. But listings expire. They disappear. And when they’re gone, so is your ranking.
What happens then?
❌ Either no page targets those keywords, or…
🔄 Another listing takes its place.
The problem is, that new listing might not rank as high. It could be newer content, poorly optimised, or missing the keywords entirely. Not an ideal SEO setup!
Here’s what I look for when auditing a site:
1️⃣ I check listing data – fields, details, or anything mentioned by the listing creator. Are there gaps?
2️⃣ Sometimes the gaps are in structured data. Other times, they’re hiding in plain sight.
For example, I recently reviewed a classifieds site. They had a 3-tier category structure:
Tech > Gaming > Consoles.
Not bad, right? But they had tons of PlayStations and Xboxes listed.
📉 Where’s the “PlayStation for sale” page?
📉 Where’s the “Xbox for sale” page?
Listings were ranking temporarily for these keywords but kept popping in and out of search results as they expired. A missed opportunity!
Or take real estate portals. They often have filters like “bedrooms,” but do those filters create unique, crawlable, and optimised URLs? Are they targeting regional or local demand?
How do you find these gaps?
🔍 Check which keywords your listings rank for. Could those keywords be better suited for a category page?
📊 Analyse onsite search data. Are your most popular searches landing on relevant pages?
While this approach will work for eCommerce, it’s gold for user-generated content sites. Portals. Marketplaces. Why? Because users naturally create content that reveals keyword gaps for you.
Not every gap needs its own page, but filling the right ones can drive measurable performance increases.
